Now this is what you call a deflated football.

An innocent rugby ball has been kicked and blocked so hard it exploded during an ITM Cup match between rivals Northland and Southland in Whangarei, New Zealand.

The incident occurred when Northland fly-half Dan Hawkins' attempted clearance was charged down by Southland's Tim Boys, with the latter picking up the suspiciously bounce-less ball to convert a try.

Replays then showed the ball had burst somewhere between Hawkins' kick and Boys' block, making life easy for the Southland man to pick it up and take it over the line after blocking the clearance.

With a new ball in play, Southland eventually came out on top with a 27-18 win.
